Taking The Walk

I'm not sure how much interest this review will hold for most of my readers, but, I'll do it anyway. Mainly because the CD is so damn good. I was accused of writing a love letter to Linkin Park on my last CD review. I expect similar accusations now.

The Walk is the latest CD from Hanson, yes those brothers who scored some bubblegum hits in the late 90's. Let me assure you those days are gone. The Walk is a refreshing blast of folkie rock and roll that sounds like someone stepped back in time to 1974, recorded an LP, and brought it back for us to consume. We're going into the seventh month of 2007 and so far out of what I have heard, this is the best album released this year by far. It's rare that every track on a CD is good, let alone worthy of multiple repeat listens. This album is just that. It will win over more than a few naysayers out there willing to give it a chance and solidify Hanson as a genuine rock and roll band.

In the past, middle brother Taylor did most of the fronting on the songs. This time youngest brother Zac takes center stage on more than a few songs, most of which I consider the best songs on the album. Fire on the Mountain especially.

My only complaint is that a couple of the songs end too soon. Fire on the Mountain is under two minutes and pretty much demands another couple of verses, despite this, I think it is my favorite song on the album.

I'll keep this brief as I hate long reviews. Suffice it to say, put your judgements to the side and give the CD a listen. It will catch your ear and get your foot tapping.

  1. This is a very accurate review of this album. It's definitely my favorite album to come out so far this year. I think it's a shame that people are so quick to dismiss Hanson as a gimmick because of their ages when they became famous. They became famous at such a young age precisely because they are so talented. Few people realize that they actually wrote "MMMBop" by themselves.

This album is their best one to date. Everyone should at least hear this.
