Eating Out 2 Review

Eating Out 2: Sloppy Seconds
Directed by: Phillip J. Bartell
Written by: Phillip J. Bartell and Q. Allan Brocka
Starring: Jim Verraros, Emily Brooke Hands, Rebekah Kochan, Brett Chukerman, and Marco Dapper

Sometimes sequels outshine their originals. This is no exception. Eating Out 2 surpasses the original in every way. The acting is better the story is stronger the laughs are frequent.

The first movie wasn't bad. It was a silly sex comedy. Eating Out 2 is a silly sex comedy also, I just liked it better.

For starters Rebekah Kochan is so fantastic in this. The first movie she came off as a young Jennifer Coolidge lookalike who really didn't spark. In this movie she is light years better and steals almost every scene. She's brilliantly funny and I almost want to watch the original again to see if my first impression was wrong.

Jim Verraros was great. He continues to be just as cute and funny as he was the first go around. Same with Emily Brooke Hands. She's very funny.

Marco Dapper and his uh...well...he marked his debut with a brave nude scene. Great stuff ;) He does a great job and is really charming and funny.

I have to say I did miss Ryan Carnes, he is sorely missed. He was replaced by Brett Chukerman. Tough shoes to fill but he did a nice job.

The story is basically the same. This time Kyle (Jim Verraros) pretends to be an ex-gay so he can have sex with Troy (Marco Dapper) and has to pretend to be dating Tiffani (Rebekah Kochan) Hilarity ensues. This leads Marc (Brett Chukerman) to get jealous and try to steal Troy for himself with the help of Gwen (Emily Brooke Hands). Kyle and Troy also attend Coming In meetings, a religious group helping gays go straight.

It's a simple story but its really funny. The characters are much more layered in this one. There is a great but disgusting gag at the end of the movie when the gang decide to take care of the Coming In leader.

The movie is directed by Phillip J. Bartell who edited the original movie. He did great on his first feature. I'm sure we can expect more great things from him in the future.,

It's a cute, fun, little flick. Certainly worth a watch with your friends. I was disappointed not to see Jim Verraros naked but there's always Eating Out 3: Buffet Style! (we can hope right?)
