The Uninvited is a by the numbers horror flick about two sisters who believe their Father's new fiancee is responsible for the death of their Mother. They decide to find out the truth for themselves and find themselves confronted with ghostly visions, nightmares, and consequences they were not prepared for. The movie and some critics boasts about a shocking ending. I'm here to tell you the ending is not shocking in the slightest.

Yet another remake of an Asian horror film, The Uninvited is only slightly better than its recent predecessors. The main problem is that it doesn't know what it wants to be. Is it a mystery? Is it a horror? A thriller? It has elements of all these genres which makes it a bit of a mess. It does have some genuine creepy moments and a couple good jumps to it, but over all it's nothing special.

The filmmakers major failure is keeping one of the major "shocks" a secret. I knew immediately what was coming. They tried to pull it off but in the end it's just too obvious not to know what it is. I'm speaking rather cryptically because I don't want to spoil anything. Obvious as it is, I'll let you see for yourself.

The acting is fine for the most part. There are no amazing performances here and no one really stands out amongst the cast. The performances are just another part of a rather bland whole.

Of course, the film looks and sounds wonderful. I couldn't point out a flaw as far as picture goes. The colors are pristine and the sound is crisp. I just wish it wasn't wasted on such a mediocre movie.

Features wise, the disc is pretty bare bones. We get some deleted scenes, a behind the scenes featurette, and an alternate ending. None of which add much to the experience of this movie.

The Uninvited is just another lackluster effort from Hollywood. It seems as if the horror genre is on life support and hope for a recovery is growing slimmer with each bad movie we get. If your standards aren't as high as mine are you might enjoy the flick, if you expect more from your horror movies, like them being good, then maybe you should skip The Uninvited.

The Uninvited is available on Blu-ray and DVD now.
