Blu-ray Review: Wrong Turn 3 - Left For Dead

Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead

The third entry in the Wrong Turn franchise is Wrong Turn 3: Left For Dead which is exactly what this movie should be been.

Look, I'm a sucker for hillbilly horror movies but this one is just laughable. Three Fingers just runs around cackling. In fact, he is barely the focus of the movie. Instead, we focus on a group of convicts, a prison guard, and a woman who's been hiding in the woods after the inbred nut killed all her friends. These are lead by a guy named Chavez who is crazier than the hillbillies, or just evil.

The acting isn't as bad as one might expect for the most part. The worst of it is at the beginning.

The CGI is terrible and cartoony but the practical effects are actually quite good.

The problem is that this movie is horribly written with terrible dialogue and a complete waste of time. It feels like they shoehorned in the Wrong Turn aspect of the plot. I wouldn't be surprised if this script had nothing to do with Three Fingers at all and he was just tossed in to capitalize on the Wrong Turn franchise.

The back of the box makes sure to point out that this film is directed by Declan O'Brien, the man behind such Sci-Fi Channel original movies as Rock Monster, Cyclops and Monster Arc. Yeah. Great pedigree. I don't think I need to say anything else about that.

The special features are pretty lousy. There's 2 deleted scenes which aren't worth the time it takes to turn them on and a featurette.

The Blu-ray looks great and the sound is crisp but it's wasted on such a lousy movie.

I can't imagine fans of the franchise enjoying this movie. It's laughable and not the least bit scary. In fact, as I watched I found myself questioning why I continue to support horror when it is in such a horrible place creatively. Wrong Turn 3 is just plain lousy.

If you are so inclined, Wrong Turn 3: Left for Dead is available now.
