We're pleased to bring you our exclusive interview with The Spill Canvas
Hi guys, thanks for taking the time to answer some questions for us here at PopCultureBeast.com!
Q)First of all, why not tell us a bit about Realities.
A) Well Realities is the 2nd of two new EP's we have released in the last 4 months. Produced by Mike Green, the EP's have been a nice way to bridge the gap of silence from Camp Spill before the upcoming full length record.
Q) The sound is a little lighter than your older stuff at least in terms of sound, what made you guys decide to go in that direction?
A) Whatever the new "sound" may be, it's not really something tangible we went searching for. We let the music find us and it felt fitting as the new recordings took shape.
Q) I was checking out the reviews on iTunes and there are a lot of positive comments but one through line I noticed were fans commenting on the different sound we just discussed. A few were saying they miss the old Spill Canvas or that this new sound is radically different. They seemed almost let down. Others embraced the change and love it. How do you respond to those that just want you guys to stay the same?
A)Negative reviews and listeners who prefer the older material provide me and us with balance. Whether it's the local coffeeshop boy with 4 fans to U2, there will always and forever be listeners who don't like that "new direction". But in my eyes, we need it. Beyond that thought, I pay no mind.
Q) You've got some really loyal fans who are already clamoring for more so whens the next LP?
A) Although we absolutely adore our fans and wouldn't be anywhere without them, In time we will reveal the release date.
Q) You're hitting the road with some great supporting bands, what can we look forward to?
A) Indeed we are; Tyler Hilton, AM Taxi, and The New Politics. You can look forward to a journey of musical variety....and dancing of course.
Q) You're going to have a lot of hours on the bus coming up so what will you guys be listening to or watching to pass the time?
A) So many movies/tv seasons will be watched-too many to list. We are also big readers too. I'm currently reading some Augusten Burroughs - good stuff.
Q) I went back and listened to some of your CDs that I've had for a while and I stumbled across a song I hadn't heard before: Self-Conclusion. It literally stopped me in my tracks. Its such a gorgeous song. Can we look forward to more Spill Canvas songs that deliver that kind of emotional reaction? And Can I look forward to hearing it live on the tour?
A) Why thank you for your kind words. I'd like to think that all the tunes we write have emotion, and isn't only considered deep just because there's one voice and one acoustic. But yes, Self-Conclusion is a common staple of our live set, so be on the look out!
Q) Guys I appreciate you taking the time to answer our questions. I like to leave you with this last question: Give us the answer to one question youve always wanted to be asked in these interviews but never have been.
A) Q: If you could time travel, what would you do with that power? A: It's top secret
Thanks again to The Spill Canvas for taking the time to answer our questions. You can get their great new EP, Realities
