DVD Review: Avatar: The Last Airbender The Complete Book 1 Collector's Edition

Avatar:  The Last Airbender The Complete  Book One Collectors Edition

The film adaptation arrives this week but whether it's faithful or even good is still up in the air (all signs unfortunately point to no.).  The good news is you can pick up the first season set in a brand new collector's edition.

Avatar: The Last Airbender tells the story of Aang, a 12-year old boy destined to be the next Avatar, a being who can bend or control all the elements: earth, water, air and fire.  It is his destiny and his purpose to restore peace to a world that is currently at war as the Fire Nation rages.

At his side, are his friends Katara and Sokka who discovered Aang in a block of ice with his mythical air bison, Appa. On his heels, is the exiled Prince Zuko and his Uncle Iroh who are hunting down the Avatar so Zuko's honor can be restored and his worth proven to his father, Firelord Ozai. Hilarity, adventure, laughs, tears, excitement, danger, and more, ensues.

Book One covers Aang and his friend's journey to find masters who can teach Aang the art of bending as the fire nation learns he has returned leaving very few safe places for our heroes.

Book One is an incredible beginning to the show. You'll find yourself captured instantly. The world of Avatar is rich, fully realized, captivating and magical. The stories are fresh and are the best written of any cartoon I've experienced.

The collector's edition comes with a sneak peak at the recently released artbook for the show and it is full or some great artwork as well as the previously released collection of Book One: Water.  We have features about the characters, the creation of the show, the voice actors, and more.

You'll not find a better animated series in the last 10 years, and in fact, I personally hold Avatar: The Last Airbender as one of the greatest animated series' ever.

Everything in this show is pitch perfect, from the story to the art to the voice acting to the wonderfully inspired lore. It's a show with valuable lessons and wonderful characters.  A show you can laugh at, a show you will probably cry during, and a show you can love on your own or with your kids.

I'll say again, on record, on roof tops. Avatar: The Last Airbender is by far one of the greatest animated series' in history and this first season is a wonderful example of just how great it is.

Forget that big budget 3-D film, this is the REAL Avatar and don't let the film adaptation, good or bad, influence your decision to pick up this collection.  You won't regret it.

Avatar The Last Airbender: The Complete Book One Collector's Edition is available now.
