Courtney Cox returns to series comedy with Cougar Town
Cox stars as Jules, a forty year old mom who wants to relive her 20s, year she missed living due to having a kid and getting married. The show is decent for the first few episodes, but once everyone realized that the strength of this show was not in Jules' quest to reclaim her youth but in the relationships between her friends and family, the show really takes off.
When the stories stop concentrating fully on Jules and involves the rest of the cast, Cougar Town finds itself approaching brilliance. It is often times laugh out loud funny, a little zany, a lot silly, and very much touching, They might want to rename the show Another Modern Family because that is exactly what this group of people feel like: a family.
The cast is impeccable. Courtney Cox is wonderful as is the entire ensemble. Dan Byrd, Busy Phillips, Josh Hopkins, Brian Van Holt, Ian Gomez, and especially Christa Miller are all spectacular here. They're flawless.
The DVD set comes with a few features including deleted scenes, bloopers (which I always love), a featurette on the evolution of the show from its pilot to its current incarnation, a Jimmy Kimmel Live sketch, as well as featurettes featuring Bobby and Barb (the ultimate Cougar)
Cougar Town is a fresh and charming new show that I highly recommend giving a chance. Push through the first couple episodes and let it get its footing because if you do, you'll find yourself falling in love with it and it will surely be one of your favorites. It really is one of my favorite new comedies of the season.
