Katy Perry Shows Her "Peacock" in New Album

Katy Perry's newest album, Teenage Dream, hits stores and becomes available for download today. This sophomore album (Technically junior album) is just as good as One of the Boys, though, some will say it's better.

Going into this review, I was honestly dreading the listen, based on the single "California Gurls".  I didn't like it the first time I heard it, and all summer I couldn't get away from it. Thank the maker for, "Teenage Dream", because at least that song is bearable. Actually it's grown on me.

To truly appreciate Perry's songs, you have to be a teenage girl or gay, because she's basically a teenager stuck in an older body. If this album is any indication, I hope she doesn't change at all (I was referring to her music, not the cover of Teenage Dream...mostly).

With "California Gurls" and "Teenage Dream" having already been released as singles and performed well on the radio, Perry already has fans wanting this new album. For me, two songs are not enough to buy a whole album.  What else is worthy of my money on this album?

"Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)"  will most likely be the third single from the album.  If "California Gurls" was this year's summer anthem, then this song would be the fall anthem. There's a lot of energy in this song, but it actually sounds like something from Ke$ha's Animal.

In the song "Not Like the Movies", Perry sings about wanting a fairy tale love, like in the movies.  Though this song may not seem radio ready, it may yet make it as the fourth single.

"Pearl" is another that will likely make it to the airwaves as it's Katy's favorite track from the album. I don't really feel this song, it's too emo for me.

"Circle the Drain" will definitely be a single off this album as it's featured in the IPhone music game app Katy Perry Revenge. This song, though just as much a downer lyrically as "Pearl", it keeps the energy up and is catchy.

The final single-worthy song, "Firework" (also featured in Katy Perry Revenge) will definitely be heard on the radio and at the clubs.  "Boom boom boom, even brighter than the moon moon moon" (Don't listen to this, it will get stuck in your head).

There's one last song I'd like to mention, "Peacock".  To me it sounds like this could be a dance song, as in do the Peacock.  If you take the song literally, it's dirty dirty birdy.  The lyrics as I hear it at the beginning are, "I wanna see you pea-cock-cock-cock your pea-cock-cock-cock...word on the street you got something to show me, magical colorful mystery..."

If you like pop music, then I'd recommend this cd to you.  Otherwise run to your cave, turn off your radio, don't watch MTV or read the paper because Katy Perry isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

You can download "Teenage Dream" on Amazon for only $7.99 (ITunes has it for $9.99)
