Movie Review: Catfish

Two weeks ago, I was privileged to see an advanced screening of Catfish. Now for those of you who haven't heard of this movie, it is the newest movie about Facebook (no, not The Social Network). The general premise is that this is a documentary about two friends who film their other friend as he pursues a relationship with a girl he met on the internet (no, not The Virginity Hit).

For those who have seen the trailer, it misrepresents the movie as a horror film, which is the only thing that is wrong with this movie. Many of the people I knew who went to see it were extremely disappointed to find out that it wasn't a horror film. I also thought it was going to be scary, but I still enjoyed the film and thought it was great. Many of these friends said that the deep root of their disappointment stemmed from the fact that the previews lied to them (just like how the Ghost Rider trailer lied to us about it being a good movie). My friends said they would have still seen it had the trailer been cut to better represent the actual movie. This is a perfect example as how marketing can really deceive people and actually hurt an otherwise great movie.

Without giving a lot of the film away, I will say that I really enjoyed the movie because it gave a real example of how nothing is as it seems on the internet. Now, this movie definitely is not for everyone, but if you enjoy documentaries and the internet I'd say go see it. This movie will move you and give you a real different outlook on Facebook and for the next few days you'll begin to question everything you know.

This is definitely worth paying full price for at night!
