Music Review: The Bangles ~ "Sweetheart Of The Sun"

Let's cut to the chase: In 2011 The Bangles have just released "Sweetheart Of The Sun" the best album in their 30-year career.

Now a trio, original members Susanna Hoffs, Debbi Peterson & Vicki Peterson have created an album that sounds like the "summer of love."

The Bangles, with help from indie rock poster boy Matthew Sweet, have produced a 12-song set of harmony-filled pop tunes that can be listened to from start to finish without the aid of your "FF" button. The slick 80's production of their mega hit album "Different Light" is nowhere to be found. Instead, "Sweetheart Of The Sun" has a hippy-trippy sound that recalls "The Zombies" and "Jefferson Airplane."

The Bangles trade off handling the lead vocal duties and all three have their moment in the spotlight with standout tracks like "Anna Lee (Sweetheart Of The Sun)", "Ball 'n' Chain" & " Circles In The Sky."

Bass duties for "Sweetheart Of The Sun" are handled by Derrick Anderson and Sweet himself on 1 track who fill in for the now departed Michael Steele.

The album closes with a cover of the Todd Rundgren penned NAZZ song "Open My Eyes," originally released in 1968. It's an excellent song and the perfect way to close a perfect album.

Drumroll please... 10 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
