Music Review: Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs "Under The Covers Vol. 3" CD

90's indie sensation and 80's video sweetheart Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs respectively, return with their third album of decade related cover tunes.  After tackling the 60's and 70's the duo rushes headlong into the decade that spawned their owns careers… the MTV generation's 80's.

On the newest volume of their pet project, Sweet and Hoffs have made some bold song choices.  The duo has chosen to pass over such hit makers as Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Hall & Oates and Duran Duran and tackle more obscure bands like The dB's, The Bongos and Kirsty MacColl.

Have no fear Matthew and Susanna also throw in a bunch of 80's hits as well from Tom Petty's "Free Fallin'"to The Go-Go's "Our Lips Are Sealed."  Other more inspired songs covered on "Under The Covers Vol. 3" include the Elvis Costello penned Dave Edmunds classic "Girls Talk" and Lindsey Buckingham's "Trouble."

Trading lead vocals and combining their voices with harmonies that would make Crosby, Stills & Nash proud Sweet and Hoffs have once again succeeded in making a thoroughly enjoyable album of cover tunes that is sure to please anyone who grew up in the 80's and beyond.

The only drawback to "Under The Covers Vol. 3" is that 14 songs just doesn't seem like enough and the album would benefit greatly from a collectors edition as was done with "Vol. 2"

Drumroll please…

7 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
