Blu-Ray Review - "Justice League WAR"

The Justice League is back in Warner Brothers 18th direct to video title "Justice League WAR."  The conceit of this new entry is that the league has not yet formed, in fact, some of the heroes are meeting each other for the very first time.

Coming on the heels of last years exceptional "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox" this film feels like amateur hour and never quite comes together in a satisfying way.  There are many low  points including writer Heath Corson's consistent use of profanity.  Yes these films are rated PG-13 and many other titles have dealt with much darker material but the swearing in "Justice League WAR" just felt out of place.  I mean do we really need to hear our favorite heroes say "douchebag" and "asshole"?

Next is Victor Stone/Cyborg's relationship with his father and this plot point is absolutely ridiculous. Stone is a grown man and a college football star yet he is still upset that "daddy" doesn't have anytime for his son.  It makes Stone seem like a crybaby instead of a would be hero. Cyborg's creation is also a mess.  It involves an accident with chemicals, wires and an alien artifact. One minute he's Victor Stone and the next he's Cyborg!!  It felt rushed and unrealistic to say the least.

While the Cyborg character was mishandled, some of the other heroes are spot on The Flash, Green Lantern and Batman all fare well with the biggest highlight for me being Wonder Woman!  From her awesome new costume to the incredible vocal performance by Michelle Monaghan Wonder Woman kicks butt and deserves to top line another DC Universe film.

The Blu-Ray contains some greta special features (Creating Heroes: The Life and Art of Jim Lee, Justice League:WAR Act D - From Animatic to Pencil Test, 4 Vintage Cartoons from the DC Comic Vaults, Deconstructing WAR with Jay Oliva and Jim Lee and A Sneak Peek at DC Universe's Next Animated Movie: "Son of Batman") but overall this is not on par with the other Justice League movies.

Drumroll please... 6 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
