Star Light Star Bright

Get yourselves to the theater to see this movie...er...tonight.

Stardust is a light hearted fantasy staring Claire Daines, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert De Niro, Ricky Gervais, Charlie Cox, Peter O'Toole, and narration by Ian McKellen directed by Matthew Vaugn based on a novel by Neil Gaiman.

The story revolves around a star named Yvaine (Claire Daines) who falls from the sky that everyone wants to get their hands on. She is discovered by Tristran (Charlie Cox)who wants to give her as a gift to the snobbish girl he thinks he loves. The two are hunted by wannabe kings and a powerful and seemingly immortal witch Lamia (Michelle Pfeiffer).

In recent years, the fantasy genre has been mostly full of dark and heavy stories like Lord of the Rings and recent Harry Potter. Stardust is exactly the opposite. It is a fun, exciting, refreshing, and most of all charming. This took me by surprise as I was expecting a movie similar to what we've been subjected to in recent years. For a few moments I felt myself thinking that I was not going to enjoy it. That was quickly dashed however as I fell into the story and the world. Once Stardust takes hold of you, it doesn't let go. You're a part of this journey and these characters. It's been a while since I've watched a fantasy movie and realised I was smiling throughout the movie. That's nothing against any other recent fantasy movies I've enjoyed, it's just Stardust had me feeling, jovial and happy while I watched it. It's also a great date movie which was a surprise.

I can't compliment the cast enough. A few of my friends left this movie praising Claire Daines after previously disliking her. Michelle Pfeiffer took her role and ran with it giggling the whole way. She was deliciously evil. Ricky Gervais and Charlie Cox both turned in fantastic roles. Charlie Cox will be attaining leading man status any time now and Ricky...well...I contend he is the funniest man on the planet and this did nothing to diminish that. Robert De Niro...well...I can't say much without spoiling but...you've never seen him like this and you will be amazed. He was stellar. The effects are dazzling, the story is magical. I can't think of a negative thing to say about it and quite frankly I don't want to. It's the first movie this year that I would rush back to the theater to see again. And again.

This is the most fun you'll have at the theater this summer despite the abysmal marketing campaign. The fact that this movie made less than 10 million on its opening weekend is unfortunate, but I think it will gain legs as word of mouth spreads.

GO SEE STARDUST. Take Your Goats!

I totally agree! It is disgraceful that this movie made 9 million and Rush Hour 3 brought in nearly 40! Where were all the Harry Potter fans??!?! This charmer was definitely a victim of a vague marketing campaign, but is truely in league with The Princess Bride!

I've wanted to see this movie since the trailer came out..It reminded me of Final Fantasy from the flying airships and such. When I watched it, I was completely blown away at how wonderfully done it was! It defiently is a Princess Bride for the new generation.. I love it soo much and plan on getting the DVD the moment it comes out (and might go see it again in theatres sometimes soon).. So glad you liked it too.. Anyone who didnt like it must have had their heart frozen and their soul sucked out.
