He is probably best known as the kid who lived in his car from the past season of American Idol. He was my early pick for the top 12 before the judges cut him in Hollywood. Certainly the wrong decision if you ask me.
Here we are now, the albums from both David's are in stores, both are pretty good, but neither is as good as Angels Undercover, the five track EP from Josiah Leming.
The EP is the precursor to his full length album expected in 2009 and if these five songs are any indication we're in for a spectacular CD.
Each track on the EP was written by 19 year old Leming, both lyrics and music. The music is lush and and the words touching and haunting. It's an extremely professional album. It sounds like something from the middle of a long successful career instead of the beginning of a new one. He may be a cast off from American Idol but he has the talent to be its most successful one to date.
Angels Undercover is a stunning, gorgeous collection of songs. Josiah Leming sings these songs like he has been doing it for decades. His words do not sound like those of a 19 year old, but of someone much older. It's safe to say he is an old soul and this makes for some incredible music. Every song is perfect. They're beautifully performed, hauntingly sung, and deeply affecting.
It's high praise for an EP with only five songs but those songs make for a great appetizer to the full CD coming soon.
I for one cannot wait to hear the full CD.
My top 2008 albums of the year consists only of LPs, otherwise this EP would be sitting pretty close to the top.
2009 will certainly be Josiah Leming's year. I have high hopes for this kids future. He is certainly a talent that cannot be ignored.
