Rob Thomas releases his brand new solo album, Cradlesong, today along with a great concert DVD taken from his tour stop at Red Rocks. This show was originally broadcast for the PBS series Soundstage but this release features seven additional songs not included in the original broadcast.
The 18 song collection features songs from Thomas' solo album as well as from Matchbox Twenty plus a cover of a David Bowie classic. The show was captured in high definition, which is probably why it looks so great on the PS3, and is presented in 5.1 Surround Sound
It's a great show that I am mad I missed. Thomas has a truly unique voice both vocally and lyrically. He really is a great songwriter and performer. I really enjoyed every song presented here.
It's funny, I was watching Real Time with Bill Maher earlier and he was interviewing Billy Bob Thornton who was saying that there are not many people that our generation can say will be recognized as legends 50-100 years from now. That we can't say we have our own Beatles or our own Michael Jackson. It may be a bit premature to call Rob Thomas a legend but he certainly has the chops to be so.
Live at Red Rocks is a great showcase for Rob Thomas' talents as a musician and as a singer and he proves again why he ranks among my favorites performing today. He has such a great emotional connection with his words and songs. It's on perfect display here with this release. He does it all during this show. We have performances with the full band, Thomas alone on a piano, and an acoustic set.
This is definitely a purchase for any fans of Rob Thomas or Matchbox Twenty. If you can't make it to see him on his upcoming tour, this is the next best thing.

Series creator Rob Thomas has confirmed his next project will be the Veronica Mars movie. He says now that his reboot of "Cupid" has been downgraded from 13 episodes to 8 that he now has the time to concentrate on the film version of the show.
Thomas says: "That means I have time to write the Veronica Mars movie. But my writing the movie is half the battle. Someone else has to pay for it. Joel Silver does have a certain pile of money. He called on me saying ‘Can we do this now?’ Kristen wants to do it. Joel wants to do it and I want to do it. For me, that’s the next project."
He goes on to say that the movie will take place at the end of her college career and not involve the FBI "what-if" storyline shot near the end of the series.
Yay! I'm officially at "Can't Wait" status. I need this now.

TV News Messiah Michael Auseillo is reporting what could be the 2nd best TV-to-Movie news ever (the first being a Buffy movie): We're edging closer and closer to a Veronica Mars movie.
Kristen Bell and series creator Rob Thomas have met and discussed the possibility. Thomas says, "Kristen and I ran into each other, and we did discuss a Veronica movie." He goes on to say he has had conversations with series producer, Joel Silver. Thomas also said once he finishes work on the two pilots he is working on, the relaunch of Cupid and the adaptation of new Zealand's Outrageous Fortune, the Veronica Mars movie will be a "Top Priority."
This makes me happy.
