Music Review: Bob Seger ~ "LIVE Bullet" & "NIne Tonight" Reissues

New Jersey has Springsteen, Indiana has Mellencamp and Michigan has Bob Seger!

For over 40 years Seger has been recording music that the Motor City was proud to call its own. While radio markets across the country took their good ol' time giving Seger airplay, Detroit has always welcomed its hometown boy with open arms. So, when it came time to record his first LIVE album there was only one place fit to hold this "about to breakout star"... the world famous Cobo Hall in Detroit. Over two nights in September 1975 Bob Seger recorded "LIVE Bullet," often regarded as one of the best LIVE albums ever recorded.

"LIVE Bullet" - which went on to sell 5 million copies - is filled with songs that weren't hits when originally released on Seger's first 8 studio albums. Songs like "Beautiful Loser," "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man," and the quintessential version of "Turn The Page" all became hits on the strength of the performances on "LIVE Bullet."

Five years later, Seger was an undeniable rock star. With more hits to his name in half a decade than most artists have their whole career, it was once again time for Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet band to record a LIVE album. In 1981 "Nine Tonight" was the end result of a years worth of touring.

Recorded in June of 1980 at Cobo Hall and in October 1980 at Boston Garden, "Nine Tonight" served as a document of Seger's achievements both artistically and commercially with a string of 3 multi-platinum studio albums: "Night Moves," "Stranger In Town" and "Against The Wind." Bob Seger was so popular that he was even able to score a top 5 hit from "Nine Tonight" with the song "Tryin' To Live My Life Without You." Almost every Seger classic you can think of is on this album: "Hollywood Nights," "Fire Lake," "Still The Same," and possibly the biggest jukebox favorite of all-time "Old Time Rock & Roll."

Both "LIVE Bullet" and "Nine Tonight" are out now in remastered form and sound better than ever. Diehard fans will want to pick up both for the never before released bonus tracks: "I Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home" on "LIVE Bullet" and "Brave Strangers" on "Nine Tonight." Casual fans will probably want to stick with "Nine Tonight" because of its greatest hits live appeal. Either way you will get to experience a legendary singer ~ songwriter in the prime of his career and at the top of his game.

Drumroll please...

LIVE Bullet: 8 out of 10 silver bullets!!

Nine Tonight: 9 out of 10 silver bullets!!
