31 Days of Scream-O-Ween! - Prison

By Garon Cockrell

Another film in the Scream Factory line up that I hadn’t heard of.  This one’s from A Nightmare on Elm Street part 4 director Renny Harlin.   Prison is a gory supernatural horror flick about a vengeful prisoner seeking his post death revenge.

Prison
The Film:
I was 8 when Prison was released so it makes sense that I never stumbled across it as I ventured into my horror fandom.  Luckily enough, Scream Factory released it for us to experience!

Viggo Mortenson stars in this supernatural revenge story about an executed inmate who returns to exact his revenge on the evil guard who knew he was innocent.   There are some really great death scenes in this one including one that could come right out of a Hellraiser movie.

Prison feels like an extended X-Files episode without Mulder and Scully but that’s not a bad thing at all.   Lots of gore and some neat (if a tad dated) effects make Prison a standout and the great performances make it a definite watch.

The Disc:
Another winner from Scream Factory, Prison looks as good as new.  Some of the effects might be a little dated but this adds to the nostalgia value of the film.  The transfer keeps the great sets looking creepy as an old prison should.

Rich colors and deep blacks keep the chilling atmosphere of this film fresh and looking brand new.
