Can't Wait For "The Amazing Spider-Man 2?" These Games May Help!

When it is widely released this coming May, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will likely become one of, if not the highest grossing film of 2014 to that point. Marvel Studios simply knows how to pack the box offices, and after a fairly successful debut for the reboot franchise in 2012, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" should be no exception.

But in anticipating the film release, there's only so much that can be said. We can watch trailers, debate casting decisions, and discuss the fact that the film looks to contain more than a few big time villains. But for the most part, we'll just have to wait and see whether or not Andrew Garfield's edition of Spidey delivers the second time around.

In the meantime, however, there are a number of ways that Spider-Man fans can get psyched of the film in the coming months, and they come in the form of games! Unlike some of his superhero counterparts, Spider-Man has always translated well to video game formats, so here are a few games to play (or look forward to) as we wait for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2."

The Amazing Spider-Man (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii)

Published for major consoles by Activision, "The Amazing Spider-Man" is a very enjoyable experience. Ultimately, it's about as good as any Spider-Man game we've seen. Interestingly enough though, with specific regard to anticipating the upcoming film, the game is designed as a follow-up to the 2012 film. It doesn't necessarily involve the same story as the upcoming sequel, but it's still fun to play out action that is meant to take place "in between" movies.

Spider-Man: Total Mayhem (iOS Mobile)

Last updated in 2013, this $6.99 app game remains one of the best action games - and certainly the best superhero app game - on the market. The animation has a delightful arcade quality to it, and the gameplay is fun and action-packed without becoming dull or repetitive. Console action games tend to be hit or miss, but this experience from Gameloft is flawless for Spidey fans.

The Amazing Spider-Man (Casino Game)

For those who just want a bit of Spider-Man in everyday life, the Get Minted online casino platform is featuring a game called "The Amazing Spider-Man" too. This online casino has a number of different pop culture gaming themes and options, in addition to the standard roulette, slots, etc., and "The Amazing Spider-Man" can bring Spidey to your gambling experience. It's not exactly an action/adventure experience, but it's a fun and relevant twist on casino gaming.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (Xbox, Playstation Devices)

Technically this game won't work particularly well for easing your anticipation of the next Spidey story, as it's set for a spring release to coincide with the film. However, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," another Activision title, has strong potential to be the best Marvel video game we've yet seen. As mentioned, Spider-Man tends to translate better than most. However, the game will also be available on Xbox One and PS4 (in addition to Xbox 360 and PS3), which brings exciting potential to the open world format expected to be used. The trailer is available on YouTube.

Truth be told, there are a number of great Spider-Man games going back through time and using older consoles. But for those who can't wait for the movie coming this May, these modern gaming adaptations should help to pass the time!
