Blu-Ray Review - "The Book Thief"

Now's your chance to see one of the best and highly overlooked films of 2013, Director Brian Percival's "The Book Thief."

Beautifully adapted by Michael Petroni from the original novel by Markus Zusak, "The Book Thief" tells the story of Liesel, an illiterate young girl who is forced to live with foster parents Hans and Rosa because her Communist mother is in danger.

Hans and Rosa are portrayed perfectly by Geoffrey Rush and Emily Watson.  Rush's Hans brings a smile to the heavy hearted Liesel while Watson's rough exterior hides a woman who would do anything for her newly adopted daughter.

Newcomer Sophia Nelisse is absolutely perfect as Liesel, holding her own in every scene.  It is almost unfathomable that Nelisse's performance wasn't nominated for an Academy Award as she was as good as any of the veterans nominated in the "Lead Actress" category.

"The Book Thief" is not an easy film to watch, but following Liesel's adolescence as she survives in war-torn Germany is a journey worth taking.

Drumroll please... 9 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
