Blu-Ray Review - "Son Of Batman"

"Son Of Batman" the 20th title in the "DC Universe Original Movie" series hits retail outlets this week.

The film is based on Grant Morrison's popular "Batman And Son" storyline as Bruce Wayne/Batman discovers he has a preteen son named Damian.  Damian has been raised by assassins and trained by Batman's archenemy Ra's al Ghul who as it turns out is also Damian's grandfather.

When Damian is sent to Gotham City by his mother Talia al Ghul he turns out to be a thorn in Bruce Wayne's side and not at all like the Dark Knight's former wards Dick Grayson and Tim Drake.  Batman has his work cut out for him as he teaches his newly discovered offspring that killing and revenge are not on a hero's "to do" list.

The voice talent is adequate but isn't as solid as in some of the previous Batman titles such as "Year One" and "The Dark Knight Returns."  Jason O'Mara as Batman puts in a valiant effort but in the end he is just a weak substitute for the original voice of Batman actor Kevin Conroy.

"Son Of Batman" has some great action scenes and far surpasses the original source material but unfortunately it falls short of being on par with some of the better DC Universe movies such as "Justice League: DOOM," "Batman: Under The Red Hood" and "Justice League: The Flashpoint Paradox."
