Blu-Ray Review - "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit"

Tom Clancy's most popular literary creation returns to the big screen in "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit."

Chris Pine (Star Trek, Unstoppable) takes over the role previously portrayed by Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck.  Much like the James Bond film "Casino Royale," this film's sole purpose is to introduce a new generation to the character Jack Ryan and to reboot the film franchise with a bang.

So did Paramount succeed?  I would say they came pretty close.  The casting of Pine as the young Jack Ryan on his first mission was perfect.  Pine has the acting chops to hold his own on screen with veterans such as Kevin Costner and Kenneth Branagh (who also directs) plus the physicality to pull off the action sequences as well.

The only draw back for me was that the climax of the film felt a little rushed as if a few scenes were cut out for time.  That is a minor criticism and certainly doesn't detract from the story because the real reason to see "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit" is Chris Pine.

Here's hoping that Pine gets to revisit this character again and that Jack Ryan has many more adventures to come.  Who knows, maybe Paramount would even consider teaming up their other "Jack" franchise and we could have Ryan and Reacher on screen together.

Blu-Ray Special Features include:
- Deleted and Extended Scenes with Optional Commentary
- Jack Ryan: The Smartest Guy in the Room
- Sir Kenneth Branagh: The Tsar of Shadow Recruit
- Jack Ryan: A Thinking Man of Action
- Old Enemies Return
and Many More

Drumroll please... 7 out of 10 drumsticks!!!
