#SDCC - San Diego Comic Con - We've played Alien Isolation!

Sega has set up two booths at comic con, one in the exhibit hall where a player plays in a giant egg:

Alien Isolation is set to come out on multiple platforms on October 7th and it is a masterpiece. They have been trying to put out a good Alien game for 15 years and have finally scored!

Also finally we get a game that follows Alien and not Aliens. The very first thing that struck me was how clear the image is. I played it on ps4 and it was like really being there; probably the first example I've seen where in-game footage lives up to the cut scenes and commercials. 

The plot that I could see was that a flight recorder from the nostromo was discovered and taken to a space station. You're Amanda Ripley, Ellen Ripley's daughter, sent to retrieve it. When you get there everyone's dead and there's and alien loose.

The game is scary as hell, you're creeping through the these great sets and play cat and mouse with an alien you can't kill. It was a terrifying experience. We got to play one demo level and if you survived it you got a t-shirt.

Got a chance to test drive Sega's new Alien Isolation game (due out in October) and from what little I saw, I gotta say that I am impressed and terrified. Instead of leaning on James Cameron's para-military alien-verse, I don't expect guns ever come into play in this first-person "shooter". In fact, we're told from screen-1 that you cannot kill the Alien.  

This is Ridley Scott's Alien and the atmosphere is pulled straight from the last 20 minutes of his 1979 film with your character sneaking through an abandoned space station with little more than a motion tracker and welding torch. I'm no great fan of the sneaking-genre of gaming - I want to jump on mushrooms and punch bricks - but the 10 min or so that I played just made me want more. This is a game of creeping shadows, taunting sounds, and being ripped from the cubby hole you're hiding in and gloriously mauled!

#SDCC: #Superman vs. #Batman vs. #Predator

Breaking news coming out of the San Diego Comic Convention hit ears yesterday; some may find this breaking movie news simply interesting, others may feel it more important than Man landing on the moon.  Depending on who you talk to, though, mention Batman and Superman in the same sentence, and things get heinous.  People will literally start throwing punches over who is better [1].  With DC Entertainment's announcement yesterday, however, we can finally all relax and break bread together because the two DC juggernauts are going to appear in an upcoming movie TOGETHER (Man of Steel 2, or Man of 2teel). OOOOH WAH AH AH AH!!!!

This opens up the door to a myriad of possibilities!  I (Alan Trehern) don't want to jump to Crisis on Infinite Earths storylines, but seriously, what are they waiting for?  You're halfway there!  Just get an Earth-2 going and you're money.  In all seriousness, I'm just happy to see DC get their act together and start organizing the way Marvel does cinematically.  Also, let's see Scarlett Johansson as Supergirl; a total no brainer.

What are your thoughts on the new crossover?  Will they manage an epic, or will we have retractable ice-skates slash our faces all over again?

Comic-Con Schedule - Thursday!

The Comic-Con folks have announced the schedule for day one, Thursday, July 23, and it is jam packed with big movies like Astro Boy, Tron 2, Trick R Treat, and more.

Unfortunately, we are probably only going to make one day of the event this year and it will probably be Saturday or Sunday. We will still do our best to bring you the news that comes out of the con as we hear of it.

Dollhouse - Epitaph One clip

Check out this clip from the much discussed un-aired episode from Joss Whedon's Dollhouse. The episode, "Epitaph One," is available exclusively on the upcoming DVD/Blu-ray release of the shows First Season.

Dollhouse arrives on DVD/Blu-ray on July 28.

Fans heading to Comic-Con this year can preorder a special limited edition set of the show for pick up at the convention. The set includes a letter from Joss himself.

Dollhouse's second season will begin on Fox on Septeber 25.

Comic-Con Discovery: Vuduberi!

I'll be honest and say I am new to the art scene. I've always appreciated it and loved looking at it, but this time at comic con is the first time I've actually purchased any.

I stumbled across the Vuduberi booth and was instantly captivated by the artwork I saw. I fell in love with the dark emo paintings as well as the adorable fantasy art and whipped out some cash to buy a print for myself and one for my brother.

It really opened my eyes to a genre of art that I was vastly ignorant of. Here are some samples of the gorgeous work, including the two I purchased. (Row 1, Center and Row 2, left)

Kevin Smith on BATMAN!!!

Kevin Smith made an appearance at the DC Nation panel to announce his 3 issue miniseries Batman: Cacophony. The series starts in November and will feature a villain from Smith's time on Green Arrow, Onomatopoeia, and famous Batman villains including the Joker.

Kevin joked the series will start in five years and finish six years after that.

Awesome news.

Days 2 and 3

What a crazy couple of days. Yesterday the PCB crew (and by crew I mean 2 of us) decided to take a chance and skip the WB panel and instead joined about 100 other people in the Jokers Army as requested by whysoserious.com. The Joker was looking for someone to join his crew and we all wanted the job.

As instructed, we arrived at the small part across from the convention center and awaited our instructions. Sure enough, just a moment or so after 10AM we notice planes above writing out a telephone number and then "Ha Ha Ha" across the sky. We all dial the number and here a recording of a man being forced to read jokes and clues and eventually is killed. A small matter because we were on the hunt. We spent about 2 hours running around downtown San Diego following clues, painting our faces to look like the Joker, stealing cookies from a Gotham girl scout and finally making it back where we started to get our rewards. One of us was taken away in a black truck, beaten and eventually killed by the joker. The rest of us were given replica clown masks from the movie, The Dark Knight. Those people helping at home were rewarded with the first official teaser trailer for the film.

Great fun. Very cool event and well put together.

After the scavenger hunt, we made our way to the Dimension Films panel where we were treated to Rob Zombie talking about Halloween and taking questions from the audience. They showed off the new trailer which you should be able to see online any minute now.

After the Rob Zombie fans were finished professing their love for him we moved on to the next panel. The cast and director of The Mist, the adaptation of the Stephen King novella about a group of people trapped in a supermarket after a monster-filled fog envelopes the town. The film is directed by Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption) and stars Marcia Gay Harden and Thomas Jane, who insists this is the best work of his career.

They showed a couple clips and I think we might have ourselves a great great movie on our hands. Darabont assured us this is a hard R rated horror movie.

After that we milled around for a while and then went to see The Simpsons Movie. I'll have a review of that in a couple days.

Saturday brought my most anticipated panel: Joss Whedon. I was in geek glory as he is exactly what I want to be in this business. Writing Movies, TV, Comics. If I ever had to say who my idol was, it is most assuredly him. Anyway, on to his big announcements:

-Ripper, a new chapter in the buffy-verse, is almost assuredly happening in the form of a 90 minute movie for the BBC for next year.

-He has no plans to take on any new popular comics like his recent X-Men and Runaways stints.

-There will be new Angel and Firefly comic series coming.

-He has written "The horror movie to end all horror movies" with Dru Goddard.

-Odds for a true Buffy or Angel movie are slim to none.

-He plans on bringing us a lot of stuff in the next year. So Joss fans can be excited to know he is determined to bring us some entertainment in the coming months.

Other news worthy items include Marvel Comics announcing Ultimates 3 written by Jeph Loeb as well as a major Ultimate universe cross over event called "Ultimatum" which they revealed exactly nothing beyond the fact that it will be crossed over between Ultimate FF and Ultimate X-Men.

Tomorrow brings Marvel's X-Men panel so hopefully we'll get some Endangered Species and Messiah Complex info.

Again no pictures until I get back to LA. I do have pics of the Joker event, Rob Zombies Halloween panel, and some pictures of a bus displaying character art for Spaceballs: The Animated Series which I have yet to see online anywhere so hopefully I'll get that up first.

Comic-Con 2007 Preview Night

Comic con got off to a great start tonight. The special preview for preregistered attendees was jam packed with people. A sure sign that this years comic con is going to be incredibly crowded.

We do have a pretty cool scoop that I don't think has hit the net yet but due to technical idiocracy (read: a memory card too large into my laptop) we can't get the pictures until tomorrow night.

With any luck this could be an exclusive post for tomorrow. I'll give you a hint: Mel Brooks + Cartoon = First Look at character art for a Wildly anticipated new show.

Fingers crossed I can get our shots from today off the camera and get them to you guys.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to get on the internets at all but that fear was laid to rest.

Tomorrow brings the paramount pictures panel with some info on Iron Man and with any luck some footage of Indiana Jones.

Small post today but tomorrow should hold pictures!
