Golden Globe Nom Oops I Mean Oscar Nominations!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released this years Oscar nominations and they look a LOT like the Golden Globes. I think with the exception of a nod for Judy Dench (replacing Kate Winslet apparently) they're near identical.
Some notable snubs? Blackfish. It's the years most talked about documentary and it is an extremely important one that is actually having a social impact.
For acting? Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan for their respective roles in Short Term 12 and Fruitvale Station. Both delivered such real and heartbreaking performances. It's a real shame they didn't get any recognition from the academy.
I'm a guy who loves award shows but this list of nominees just feels lazy to me. It's cookie cutter. Nothing shocking. The fact that it mirrors the Golden Globes is probably going to be hell on the ratings. Why watch if we're just going to see the same thing?
You can click the RAWR for the complete list of nominations. The big show airs on March 2 on ABC.

Is Your Favorite Show Canceled?
No bells and whistles for this post. This is all bad news. Lots of shows hit the chopping block this week. Did one of your favorites meet the grim reaper?
Here are the shows as of Friday evening, that have been canceled:
ABC:
Body of Proof
Malibu Country
Red Widow
Happy Endings (BASTARDS!) (May be headed for USA?)
Good news? Revenge, Grey's Anatomy and Nashville among the shows renewed.
CBS:
CSI: NY
Golden Boy
Made In Jersey
Partners
Rules of Engagement
Vegas
Good News? Elementary and The Good Wife plus How I Met Your Mother all returning.
FOX:
Ben and Kate
The Cleveland Show (Unofficially)
The Mob Doctor
Touch
Good news? Raising Hope, Glee (through season 6), and Bob's Burgers among returning shows.
NBC (Updated @7pm):
Smash has been canceled.
1600 Penn
Deception
Go On
Guys With Kids
The New Normal
Up All Night
Whitney
Good News? Parenthood and Community!
The CW:
90210
Cult
Good News: Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, Hart of Dixie, and The Carrie Diaries all returning. Oh and Arrow and Beauty and the Beast.
It was a blood bath if you ask me. Especially in terms of sitcoms. I am still shocked that The New Normal and Go On were canceled. I really yearn for the days when shows were allowed to build audiences.
Other victims announced include Southland over on TNT. But ABC has officially picked up Agents of SHIELD!
More updates as we get them.
Thanks to TVLine for the info!

TV: Will Their Bubbles Burst?
Will Their Bubbles Burst? TV Shows That May Be Cancelled Before Fall
Some shows seem destined for cancellation before they even hit the small screen, and the first few seasons are often a make-or-break indicator of their success.
We’re sizing-up the shows from major networks that seem to be hanging by the skin of their teeth, and wondering: could they be cancelled before fall? Or do they have what it takes to get renewed for another season?
Body of Proof
In keeping with the trend of shows based on forensic science, ABC’s Body of Proof was met with mixed reviews when it premiered in March 2011. Both the murder cases and the “inner demons” of the detectives working to solve them were deemed clichéd by critics, and since season two ended on April 10, viewers are wondering if it will be back for a third. The show stars Dana Delany, Jeri Ryan and John Carroll Lynch, and despite its poor critical reception, it ranked the #2 most-watched scripted drama on ABC, which could be grounds for a third season.A Gifted Man
The series about a self-obsessed surgeon who’s visited by his ex-wife from beyond the grave may not see a second season based on its predictability. This medical-supernatural hybrid, which stars Patrick Wilson, Jennifer Ehle and Margo Martindale debuted to low ratings last fall, and has been declared CBS’s weakest drama. CBS executive producer, Neal Baer told tvseriesfinale.com, “[CBS] really likes the show, and we haven’t talked about the future at all except trying to just do great episodes… They’re very supportive of the show and I know they really like it, so we’re very hopeful about coming back in the fall.”Pan Am
Set in the ‘60s and centered around the original Pan American World Airways, Pan Am’s chances of getting renewed for a second season are still “up in the air.” Last fall the show premiered on ABC, showing off its air traffic controller training as audiences soared past 11 million viewers. Ratings took a nose dive, however, when ABC aired the show up against major news events and popular dramas. After one of the show’s stars, Karine Vanasse tweeted, “Well, we received THE call #PanAm is only coming back for one more episode after Christmas” fans assumed the show had been cancelled, and ABC issued a public statement denying its cancellation. The season one finale aired February 19, starring Christina Ricci Margot Robbie and Michael Mosley. ABC reps told eonline.com, “Pan Am is still in contention for next season. We won't know about that until our upfront announcement in May.”Best Friends Forever
NBC’s Best Friends Forever debuted on April 4 this year to low ratings. The show, which stars Lennon Parham and Jessica St. Clair centers around a pair of BFFs who move in together in New York City. NBC has only ordered six episodes, which is a bad indication of its faith in the show, and ratings for Best Friends Forever are much lower than Are You There, Chelsea? which previously held the same time slot.Fringe
J. J. Abrams’s sci-fi show, Fringe has endured a few time-slot shakeups, from 9pm Tuesdays to 9pm Thursdays to the dreaded “Friday night death slot” -- 9pm Fridays, which has many critics questioning its fate. The show’s star, Joshua Jackson commented on the time slot shuffle, “It's not that not enough people are watching Fringe, it's that not enough people are watching Fringe during the hour that it's on the air, which is key for the network." Other Fox shows have thrived in this time slot, however, including The X-Files, so it remains to be seen whether or not Fringe will slip over the edge into cancellation.Sources

Help Me Save Cougar Town and Maybe Win $100 Amazon Gift Card
I need your help.
At the top of the page you'll notice we have a banner up for the show Cougar Town. Now, up front let me tell you I am not getting paid a dime to host that ad or for this post. It's taking up premium ad space on the site because I want it to. I reached out to the creators of the show and asked them for something, anything, to put on the site to show my support and appreciation for what has become one of my favorite TV comedies, and my favorite ensemble cast, on TV today. Why? Because I love it and I want it to stick around for as long as possible.
What does this have to do with you?
Well, I'm asking for a favor. Watch the show. Tuesday Nights 830pm on ABC. Give it a chance. I can guarantee you it is not the show you think it is. It's not about older women after younger men. it's about friendship and family and wine. It's an unfortuantely titled show that you will fall in love with.
Do me a favor and help me save one of my favorite shows. Tell your friends (especially of the Nielsen variety), watch the show a few times. If you don't like it, you've lost what 90 minutes? If you do like it, and I feel extremely confident that you will, keep spreading the word.
Hell, I'll even make it a contest. Anyone who tweets "Please Watch Cougar Town Tuesday 8:30 on ABC. One of the Best Shows (and THE BEST Cast) on TV! #CougarTown #PCBCT" will be entered in a drawing to win a $50 Amazon Gift Card (out of my OWN POCKET.) If I get more than 100 tweets/RTs on this AND Cougar Town ratings increase (even a little) I'll bump it up to $100.
DO NOT FORGET THE HASH TAGS or I won't know you tweeted it. UPDATE: Contest ends April 3!
That might not seem like a lot but I'm a completely independent blog and I do this for the love of doing it.
Help me save Cougar Town and in the process you'll find a show you'll fall for too.
Game on.
THANK YOU!
-Garon

What is Fall's Best New Show?

It might be early but after a couple weeks into the new fall season only one show has me really looking forward to the next episode and captivated from beginning to end.
It's not Terra Nova, although that is a pretty fun show in itself. It's certainly not the mess of X-Factor that only keeps me watching for the train wreck aspect of it and to see just how bad Simon's botox will get.
It might surprise you but I am calling it now. TV"s Best New Show?
Revenge is a deliciously entertaining drama about a girl on a mission to destroy the people responsible for framing her father for a horrendous crime. It is a juicy, surprising and smart show. I love the cast (featuring an excellent Emily VanCamp, Madeleine Stowe and Connor Paolo), and characters and cannot really find a single fault with it.
It's the only new show of the season that I'm loving and I really can't wait for the next episode (ABC if you're reading this SEND ME SCREENERS!)
So again, here it is: Revenge is the best new show of the fall!
Revenge is on ABC Wednesdays at 10pm. Give it a watch and you'll be hooked just like me. You can see the first two episodes at ABC.com.

DVD Review: Cougar Town The Complete Second Season
It's fascinating to see how the show has evolved from focusing on the dating life of Courteney Cox to an ensemble show about the lives of this group of friends who have become a family. It's an entirely different show than when it started. You can see the evolution throughout the first season and it really comes together during season two. 22 episodes of pure hilarity and some of the best comedic writing you'll find on TV make Cougar Town
It doesn't matter how brilliant the writing is, and it is brilliant, if you don't have the right cast to bring it to life. Thankfully, Cougar Town has that cast. A group of perfect actors who bring these characters to life flawlessly with each episode. As the second season progresses, it's easy to see just how comfortable they have become in these parts. It's a shame that Modern Family (a show I also love) is stealing all the thunder because in truth Cougar Town
As funny and zany as the show gets it has this great emotional core running through it. You can be laughing at one thing and then a moment later you're getting choked up seeing one of these characters you love going through a bad moment. That kind of connection to the characters is rare in TV today I think, especially in comedy.
As for the DVD release, you get all 22 episodes of season 2, and a few special features including deleted scenes, a featurette about the shows evolution, the Andy's Dreams web series, and a woefully short outtakes feature.
Here at PCB HQ we watched the entire season in about 3 sittings, which evens out to a disc at a time and in fact have started in again so its safe to say we really do love the show.
Don't let the title fool you or put you off. This isn't a show about cougars. Not anymore. It's a show about family and life and friends that will have you laughing and quoting for hours. When you watch it, I dare you to not want to play a round of Penny Can.

DVD Review: FlashForward - The Complete Series
Unfortunately, it was too late and the show was canceled despite its creative resurgence.
Honestly, none of the episodes come near to the greatness of the first episode. The show quickly spirals and becomes a bit of a mess, even the better stronger last few episodes.
I can't really say this complete series set is worth a buy to be honest, especially at its current WAY too high price. I mean the strength of the premiere episode does not carry through the entire series and unfortunately, most of the episodes just aren't good enough to really warrant repeat viewings.
That said, the set does have some good special features. Bloopers, featurettes, deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes and more. It's a nice collection of features for a canceled TV show.
As far as casts go, FlashForward is stacked pretty well. Featuring alumni from film and TV (some Lost alumni to boot!) I just wish the material could have served them better, or at least more consistently.
I think, given more time, FlashForward
I'm just glad I didn't get too involved. I jsut hope the same thing doesn't happen with The Event which I am really looking forward to!

Sunday Ratings
ABC's darling Desperate Housewives dropped a whopping 37% in ratings for this seasons premiere over last season's. Brothers and Sisters dropped 35%. Quite a drop for two seemingly popular shows.
On the other end of the spectrum Fox's new animated series The Cleveland Show beat the season premiere of The Simpsons by more than a million viewers. Seth MacFarlane is certainly earning that huge paycheck because both Family Guy and American Dad increased over last years premieres by 16% and 13% respectively.
Pretty crazy night!

By the way, if you are looking for spoilers, you won't find them here. I won't be discussing the story line at all besides the basics.
The story of a pie maker who can raise the dead with one touch continues in the second season and the show is just as charming and magical as the first season. I am a little mad that I missed this show when it first aired. But at the same time, I was able to see it all at once without having to wait a week between episodes, which would have been terribly difficult.
I don't think there is a show on television that has as much soul as this one did. It's emotional, funny, quirky, touching, dramatic, and like I said before: Magical.
ABC had an amazing show here and they let it go way too soon. It's just another testament to the Television environment. Nothing is allowed to grow anymore. It's sad.
The DVD set features the last 13 episodes of the show created by the brilliant Bryan Fuller (Wonderfalls, Dead Like Me) as well as a few special features. We have featurettes on the music of the show, production challenges, visual effects, the inner secrets of the show.
Overall, it's a decent set. The show was yanked from the air far too early and I am really sad to see this story end.
I could really go for more of Ned and Chuck's story. Pushing Daisies was a rare show indeed. An imaginative dream of a creation with amazing actors and beautiful stories and while the finale seems a tad rushed, it still gives us a decent end to a story that should go on for years.
This is a perfect show that you need to see from the beginning so pick up the special set of both season one and two of Pushing Daisies.
Pushing Daises Season 2 is available now on DVD and Blu-ray.
