Here Are Your Oscar Winners!
Last night, Hollywood gathered for the Academy Awards. It was a mostly uneventful night with few, if any, surprises. Well, there was pizza, and selfies like the epic one above.
There was also this:
Yeah, I don't understand how that happened either.
I thought Ellen did a good job. She kept the predictable affair funny.
As for the awards, if you haven't guessed them all, click the RAWR for the full list. Congrats to all the winners!

Golden Globe Nom Oops I Mean Oscar Nominations!
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released this years Oscar nominations and they look a LOT like the Golden Globes. I think with the exception of a nod for Judy Dench (replacing Kate Winslet apparently) they're near identical.
Some notable snubs? Blackfish. It's the years most talked about documentary and it is an extremely important one that is actually having a social impact.
For acting? Brie Larson and Michael B. Jordan for their respective roles in Short Term 12 and Fruitvale Station. Both delivered such real and heartbreaking performances. It's a real shame they didn't get any recognition from the academy.
I'm a guy who loves award shows but this list of nominees just feels lazy to me. It's cookie cutter. Nothing shocking. The fact that it mirrors the Golden Globes is probably going to be hell on the ratings. Why watch if we're just going to see the same thing?
You can click the RAWR for the complete list of nominations. The big show airs on March 2 on ABC.

84th Annual Academy Award Nominations!
Well, at last the Oscar nominations have been announced and there are some MAJOR snubs. Inconceivable ones if you ask me. No Bridesmaids for best picture, despite getting a writing and supporting actress nod, not too mention Drive (travesty) and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. It's weird to me they only have nine nominations. That 10th slot could have easily been Bridesmaids or Drive. The Adventures of Tin Tin was also shut out of Best Animated Feature which feels almost like a gift to Rango.

And The Host Of The Oscars Is...
Kind of a safe, but still good, choice to be honest. I have to admit all the talk of a Muppet hosted Oscars was really exciting.
Oh well.

Eddie Murphy Exits Academy Awards?!
Murphy says. "First and foremost I want to say that I completely understand and support each party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's Academy Awards ceremony. I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop, but I'm sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job."
I can't even imagine why Murphy would do this but whatever. It's time for the academy to pick up the phone and call Conan.

And the Oscar Host Is...
It's not 100% just yet but it's pretty likely that the next host of the Academy Awards will be Eddie Murphy.
It's an interesting choice that I can get behind.
I'm still not sold on this whole putting Brett Ratner in charge of the show thing though.

Best Picture x 10
Next years Oscar ceremony is going to be a bit different.
For the first time since 1943 there will be ten Best Picture nominees instead of the normal five.
This will hopefully increase the variety of films as well as the chances of more deserving films to be nominated.
However, good luck finding ten movies worthy of Best Picture nominations because this year is not looking to be any different than last year.
It is a cool idea though. I'm excited to see what happens with it.
Now, bring back Ellen and things will be looking even better.

Who Might Be The Next Oscar Host??
Oh yeah. That's right. Word has it that the Academy is on the prowl for Justin Timberlake to host as a way to increase the show's rapidly sinking ratings. They also seem to have contacted Tina Fey to see how interested she may be in hosting.
I didn't catch Justin hosting the Espy's but I have heard that he did quite well. I'm not sure he is quite ready for Oscar hosting duties. I'd much rather see Tina Fey run the show.
Maybe it will end up being a co-hosting gig?
I guess we'll find out soon.

Oscar Winners
I have the full list of Oscar winners for you but before I post that I wanted to raise a concern. They did the memorials as usual this year and made a point to include Heath Ledger. Amongst the writers, producers, actors, dancers, and agents the academy failed to include Brad Renfro among those lost in the past year.
Surely, he deserved to be included among his peers. It's not as if he was not a working actor. He had just finished a film with Billy Bob Thornton and Winona Rider. His omission from the memorial montage is heartbreaking and disrespectful to his memory and to his family. He was a gifted actor who had tragically lost his life and his not being included is a truly dark moment in the history of the show if you ask me.
That said, here are the winners of this years awards. Only one serious surprise of the night.

Oscar Fever!
Happy Wednesday, (All New Lost tonight!)
The 79th Academy Awards are just days away. I myself will be attending a small Oscar gathering with like minded wannabe movie folk and my bestest friends.
Why do I care so much about the Oscars? It’s the Superbowl for us movie geeks. The culminating event of the movie season we all look forward to.
I'm always in a sort of peace when I watch. Almost like my mind is moving foward in time to the time I may end up there myself. (delusions of granduer?)
That said, I am uber excited for this years show. Ellen hosting should be a nice change, maybe they'll be funny this year. Remember Chris Rock? Yikes.
I didn't see as many movies last year as I’d hoped (this will change this year), I’m still as eager as ever to sit down and watch.
Below, are my thoughts on the major categories of this years Oscars. These are my choices on who should win, who probably will win, and who might sneak up and snatch it.
Ryan Gosling - “Half Nelson”
Will Smith - “The Pursuit of Happyness”
Forest Whitaker - “The Last King of Scotland” – Who Will Win
Jackie Earle Haley - “Little Children”
Eddie Murphy - “Dreamgirls” – Who Will Win
Mark Wahlberg - “The Departed”
Judi Dench - “Notes on a Scandal”
Meryl Streep - “The Devil Wears Prada” – The Dark Horse
Kate Winslet - “Little Children” – Who Should Win
Jennifer Hudson -“Dreamgirls” – Who Will Win
Rinko Kikuchi - “Babel” – Who Should Win
“Happy Feet” – Who Will Win/Who Should Win
“Monster House”
Martin Scorsese - “The Departed” – Who Will Win/Who Should Win
Clint Eastwood - “Letters from Iwo Jima”
Stephen Frears - “The Queen”
“Listen” from “Dreamgirls” - Henry Krieger, Scott Cutler & Anne Preven - Who Will Win/Who Should Win
“Love You I Do” from “Dreamgirls” - Henry Krieger & Siedah Garrett
“Our Town” from “Cars” - Randy Newman
“Patience” from “Dreamgirls"- Henry Krieger& Willie Reale
Bye kids!
