American Dad Volume 6 DVD Review

From Seth MacFarlane comes what I think is the best season of American Dad yet! Volume 6 contains all 18 episodes of the 5th season of the hilarious show. A lot of the episodes in this season are instant classics: "In Country...Club", "My Morning Straitjacket", "Rapture's Delight", "Cops and Roger", and "The Great Space Roaster", just to name a few. Every episode is completely uncensored and ripe with hilarity that could only come from the mind of Seth MacFarlane.

"Rapture's Delight" is the gem of this season. Most of the packaging features artwork from the episode and there are a lot of special features dedicated to it, and rightly so. Many shows and movies deal with the apocalypse, but I believe that American Dad does it best. The episode starts out with Stan and Francine going to church, but skipping the ceremony to have sex in a closet. During this time the rapture occurs, leaving both Stan and Francine behind. Stan blames Francine and she leaves him. The episode continues by parodying The Road Warrior and Escape From New York. From teaming up with Jesus, to battling the Anti-Christ, this episode has it all!

There are a lot of special features in this set. Several of the episodes have commentaries from the creators, which are a lot of fun to listen to. Disc 3 contains many hilarious deleted scenes from the entire season.

Don't miss out on what I consider to be the best season of American Dad yet!

I give American Dad Volume 6 an 8 out of 10!

"Black Swan" Movie Trailer

The newest film by by Darren Aronovsky (Pi, Requiem for a Dream) promises to be an engagingly interesting thriller. But that's not why I'm posting this trailer for you that was released today. It's the piece of cinematic greatness when Natalie Portman (Star Wars Episode I, Episode II, Episode III, The Professional) and Mila Kunis (Family Guy, That 70s Show) kiss, starting at 1:26. This is one movie that I hope is the exception to the rule; all the good parts are in the trailer. I don't really know what this movie is about, but I've already pre-ordered tickets and the Blu-Ray.  The force is strong with this one.

Sunday Ratings

ABC's darling Desperate Housewives dropped a whopping 37% in ratings for this seasons premiere over last season's. Brothers and Sisters dropped 35%. Quite a drop for two seemingly popular shows.

On the other end of the spectrum Fox's new animated series The Cleveland Show beat the season premiere of The Simpsons by more than a million viewers. Seth MacFarlane is certainly earning that huge paycheck because both Family Guy and American Dad increased over last years premieres by 16% and 13% respectively.

TV News: The Cleveland Show!

It may not begin airing until this fall, but FOX has already ordered a second season for the Family Guy spin-off series, The Cleveland Show. This brings the total episode count up to 35. The second season will begin in fall of 2010.

The first season which debuts this fall will have 13 episodes.

I can't wait to see how this turns out.

TV News!

Fox has delayed the premiere of the Family Guy spin-off The Cleveland Show from mid season to fall 09, sighting lengthy production schedules . The good news is that along with the postponement that have asked for a full 22 episode season of the show!

The shooting schedule of Prison Break has been extended in order to film 2 additional episodes for the show. This leads many to speculation that these two episodes will serve as the last for the show.

Fox has also announced the cancelation of MadTV, one of the networks longest running shows. There is already talk of the show moving to a cable network (my guess is comedy central.).

NBC has inexplicably given a full season order to Knight Rider which will be retooled to be more like its predecessor. They have also canceled Lipstick Jungle, and the new series My Own Worst Enemy.



ABC has announced Lost will return on Wednesday, January 21. The show returns with a THREE HOUR event. From 8-9 we have a recap show and from 9-11 the 2 hour premiere! The show will remain on Wednesdays at 9pm.

Boston Legal will finish out it's final season in just a few short weeks. Is there any hope for another network to pick it up? Perhaps a spin-off? The show has been brilliant this season and I'm not quite prepared to see a TV landscape without Boston Legal.

HUGE night of Premieres!

It's Sunday night and there are a bunch of shows returning tonight!

On Showtime we have the simply cannot miss premieres of Dexter and Californication.

Over at Fox animation domination is back with all new episodes of King of the Hill, The Simpsons, Family Guy, and American Dad.

ABC has the premieres for America's Funniest Home Videos, Extreme Makeover Home Edition, Desperate Housewives, and Brothers and Sisters.

The CW brings us In Harms Way, Surviving Suburbia, Valentine, and Easy Money.

NBC has well...football. Skip that.

Finally, CBS delivers 60 Minutes, The Amazing Race, Cold Case, and The Unit.

Looks like Tivo is going to be working overtime tonight.

My suggestion? Record Desperate Housewives, and Brothers and Sisters and watch Dexter and Californication live.

I'm not one to support Double Dipping on DVD releases. Namely, why buy a separate DVD for something that will be part of the box set later? Well, I can't pass this up. Have a look at the DVD art for the upcoming standard and special edition release of Family Guy Presents: Blue Harvest.
