Congrats to @ReadingRainbow and @levarburton!

KICKSTART HERE!

Well, they don't need much help anymore!  After hearing the big news that PCB met their Kickstarter requirements (!), Star Trek alum and Reading Rainbow host LeVar Burton decided to follow suit by kickstarting RR into every classroom and home in the world!  A big endeavor, for sure!

They've met their $1,000,000 goal, and it's still funding!!  But his message is clear: kids who never learn to read properly grow up into adults that cannot read properly, resulting in chaos, societal breakdown and cumbersome small talk.  So if your love Reading Rainbow, keep your eye out for its return soon!

But you don't have to tak- **slapped with lawsuit**

Uhh, yeah, see you next time.

Kickstarter Update - GOOOAALLL!

We did it.  We hit our $8500 goal.  Now let's get even further.  We've added four great stretch rewards.

First up? From the guys behind the redesign, Destination Graphic, you can get your own custum digital movie poster created based on information from your facebook profile. I got one of my own, you may have seen it on Twitter or Facebook, and you can see it on the banner just above. Fun reward from a talented designer!

Next, a super exclusive Pop Culture Beast branded edition of Eliot Hochberg's strategy board game Urosette! This is extremely limited and exclusive only to this Kickstarter. I won't even have one!
Thirdlu, you can have a character named after you in my next collection of short stories which is expected to be out later this year. If you've read my earlier book, you know some pretty insane stuff happened in it. I don't think this one will disappoint in that regard.  So your name, or a name you choose (no celebrities!), will be used in one of the stories featured in the book. And, I'll kick in a digital copy of the book as well.
Lastly, an exclusive invite for you and a guest to join us for a Karaoke Night to celebrate the relaunch of Pop Culture Beast. There's no telling who might show up to this party and it should be a blast.
These are in addition to the other great rewards still up for grabs.  Contribute and share and help us make the next version of PCB the absolute best it can be!

The @PopCultureBeast @Kickstarter Continues...

https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1437868841/pop-culture-beast-20
Our fundraiser continues!

After just 2 weeks, we've raised over $7600 towards our goal.  That means we have under $1000 left in our goal with 16 days remaining.  We are so extremely close!

I am floored by all of the support for this project but we're not there yet.  We have time to get to our goal and beyond!  Check out our great rewards (some of which are represented below!) and please pledge if you are able.

Great things are ahead for Pop Culture Beast and we will get there with your help.

Pop Culture Beast Version 2.0 @Kickstarter!

Late last night I launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a massive overhaul of Pop Culture Beast and to relaunch Pop Culture Beast presents SHOW.  I woke up this morning, less than 12 hours later, to find we're already 25% funded.  We've raised over $2,000 in the wee morning hours.

This is extremely exciting!

Have a look at the Kickstarter and if you are able, please support us as we gear up to turn PCB into something amazing.   If you can't contribute, your sharing of the KS page is not only welcomed but appreciated.  Every share helps just as much as ever dollar.  Getting the word out helps us reach new eyes and gain new readers.

I started the site just for me to write about what I loved.  We've grown a lot and it's time that the site reflects that.  Last night, you're support has shown me that Pop Culture Beast truly belongs to the people out there who keep reading it and supporting us.  We're gonna give you guys a great site you 'll want to come back to day after day.

Thanks to everyone who donated so far and to those who plan to do so later.

We are on the road to a brand new beast!  I'm super stoked to have you all along for the ride!

Kickstarter Alert: Walk-Ons!

I'm not sure I have heard of a more interesting idea than mixing John Hughes with Paintball but that is just what the folks behind Walk-Ons are aiming for.

I'm glad to help promote what sounds to be a fun project that with your help can get off the ground with the most possible chance at success.

Read on for the full press release and please, if you like the idea (and how could you not), toss them a few bucks or share it with your friends.  Head over to Kickstarter for more info!  The campaign ends on January 10, 2014.

Oh and keep an eye out for the next episode of SHOW where we'll welcome back Ryan Stockstad, producer for Walk-Ons, to discuss this new venture and plenty of other fun stuff.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Paintball Movie “Walk-Ons” Is Funding Now on Kickstarter.

North Hollywood, California (November 29, 2013) – Writer/director Andrew Kadikian has partnered with producer Ryan Stockstad to make a teen romantic comedy set in the world of competitive paintball. The two filmmakers have launched a campaign on the crowd-funding site Kickstarter to raise $5,000 of the project's budget.

“The paintballing sport is not represented very often in film. We're hoping that this movie will change that a little bit. We're hoping that this is the kind of movie that if you play paintball, you'll like what we've created”, said Ryan Stockstad, founder of Crowned Prince Productions.

Writer/director Andrew Kadikian adds, “I'm kind of drawing my inspiration for this from my love of John Hughes movies and teen comedies of the 80s... And at the same time, my love for paintball and playing paintball and watching professional paintball.”

Kadikian is an avid paintball player who regularly documents the sport with a helmet-mounted camera. Using his Rogue Division production company's partnered YouTube channel, he then shares the footage with over 7,000 subscribers.

Walk-Ons represents Andrew Kadikian's student thesis film as he prepares to graduate from Art Institute California – Hollywood. It will be his ninth directed project in three years, following the 48 Hour Film Project “Black Ribbon”, his award-winning student portfolio film “In the Way”, and the eight-part YouTube miniseries “Necessary Measures”.

The Walk-Ons Kickstarter campaign will run now through January 10th, 2014. For more information, please visit http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hollywoodpsychic/walk-ons-a-paintball-movie.

New York vs. Los Angeles: The Run-Down Coast Loses A Cultural Player

by Kari Tervo
Angeleno

New York City odor-apologists (seriously, that place either smells like freezing cold tenements or hot garbage soaked in piss) love to cut down Los Angeles by saying that we have "no culture."

What? Whose culture? What culture? I'm guessing that kind of "culture" that nobody actually enjoys? Los Angeles is the home of pop culture, appreciated and coveted worldwide. I mean, who is bootlegging the ballet? Let's get real.

Let's talk the latest nail in the coffin of that "New York has cuuulltureeee" argument: The failure of the New York City Opera. A little stain on your opera gloves there, huh, Mrs. Douglas? Or Mrs. Drysdale, or Mrs. Howell, whoever (sorry, whomever, lovey*) you fancy yourself to be.

Marilyn raises the roof, knowing life's too short to be a snob.
